Opening of the second store in the local market
The second location of the Treasure Chest sellers market only opened recently, but the nearly 13,000 square foot building is already full.
Treasure Chest Too is located on Louisiana Highway 28 East in Pineville, in the former home of Fads and Frames. The original store on Coliseum Boulevard in Alexandria remains open.
“We joked that if we could have added 5,000 square feet to the Alexandria store, we would have done it,” said Phyllis Van Gossen, who runs the business with her sister-in-law, Stephanie. “Sometimes the waiting list for our big stands could go up to two years, so it couldn’t have been better.”
The Van Gossens bought Treasure Chest two years ago. It’s a vendor’s market, where merchants rent space to sell everything from antiques and collectibles to art, handmade pillows, and bath bombs.
“It helps people who don’t have funding or who are trying to figure out if it’s something they want to do,” said Stephanie Van Gossen. “They can start here without having their own storefront, and all the expense that goes with it.”
Both stores are open Wednesday to Friday 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Eventually, the Van Gossens plan to use additional space in the Pineville store to host craft-focused classes.
“It gives people a mall-like feel without the crowds and the prices,” said Phyllis. “There are a lot of beautiful works here that might not be seen otherwise.”
“There is always something unique and different to see here,” said Stéphanie. “We would like to make Pineville and Alexandria a destination where people come for this type of shopping.”
New café location opens in March
Legal Grounds Espresso Bar is planning the official opening of its new location on Boulevard de Versailles for March 9.
The store’s original location is on Murray Street, across from the Rapides Parish Courthouse. The new location will be in a new development on Provine Place, which is next to Versailles, near its intersection with Louisiana Highway 28 West.
